Program Overview
Prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death among men in the United States. In rural and underserved communities, patients face numerous inequities that amplify the burden of the disease. Individuals who reside in these areas often lack access to oncology specialty care and do not undergo cancer screening or biomarker testing as often as their urban counterparts. In addition, racial and ethnic disparities in the incidence and mortality of prostate cancer also impact this population. In this activity, experts will review current and emerging treatments for nonmetastatic hormone-sensitive, metastatic hormone-sensitive, and nonmetastatic castration-resistant disease. Best practices to improve risk stratification and overcome barriers to prostate cancer care will also be discussed.
This enduring activity is a recorded session from Oncology Congress that took place on December 2, 2023.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Describe risk stratification approaches for patients diagnosed with prostate cancer
- Evaluate the efficacy and safety of evolving treatment options for nonmetastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer, metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer, and nonmetastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer
- Integrate clinical evidence and guidelines into treatment plans for patients with prostate cancer
- Apply strategies, including coordination of care and shared decision-making, to overcome barriers to prostate cancer care in rural and underserved settings
