Target Audience

This activity is designed specifically for primary care clinicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other members of the healthcare team who serve patients in rural and underserved communities.

Program Overview

Rapid initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) is key to improving HIV care and outcomes, especially in disproportionately impacted rural and underserved areas. However, patients may face unique barriers that limit optimal management including limited resources, long travel distances to care, and lack of access to specialists familiar with HIV treatment and management. In this activity, expert faculty will cover best practices for initiating ART as soon as possible, even on the same day that patients seek care. Important considerations for switching or simplifying ART, navigating virologic failure, and managing special patient populations such as pregnant women will also be discussed using realistic patient case examples.

• Employ strategies to improve rapid HIV treatment initiation in rural and underserved settings
